OLD ALLENSPARK SCHOOL REUNION
JULY 31st - AUGUST 2nd 2009

KOROPP FAMILY

A few more memories to add to yours, Leslie--square dancing at Kelly House, listening to Charlie Eagle Plume's stories, riding horses with Laura, and hearing the news that Kennedy had been shot while we were out on the playground.

OK, my bio is coming after the fact, so since I got to talk with many of you in AP, this may be old news. After our parents divorced and sold Triple Creek, our mom, Dee, bought a ranch in Estes Park, where she—personally—built a ranch house, a two-story five-stall horse barn and numerous out buildings (all without the benefit of a building permit, which has recently come back to haunt us!) She died in 2001, at only 72, and left the ranch in a family trust. Our dad, Bob, went from Allenspark to Lakewood, Golden, and finally Denver, where he continued his photography career right up to the end of his life in January of 2008. After junior high in Lyons, I went to high school in Estes for a couple years, then graduated from Boulder High in 1970. From there I went to Colorado College, then to D.U., where I got a Masters in Art History and Museum Studies. I spent almost a decade working at the Denver Art Museum, which is one of the most visitor-centered art museums in the country. If you’ve been there, you know what I mean; if you haven’t, I highly recommend it. I went on to direct education departments at the Muskegon Museum of Art and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. In Muskegon, I met Dan Gleason, my second husband, and after a couple years of a commuter relationship I returned to West Michigan and started Musynergy, my museum consulting business. In the last 16 years there have been a lot of interesting projects and more plane rides, meetings, reports, phone calls, and emails than I’d want to count. The bottom line is my amazing family, all pictured here…

Alexa, 27, and Jordan, 22, are the light of my life. She lives in San Diego where she’s working on an MBA, and he just graduated from UCLA with a major in neuroscience and a minor in surfing. He’ll undoubtedly go back to school after a taste of the real world—especially in this economy!

Jordan has been dating Britt since high school and they could teach me a thing or two about commuter relationships…somehow they managed to keep theirs together through four years of college in Ann Arbor and LA. Now she’s on her way to UCLA for dental school.

Alexa and Russell met in San Diego and have been together for four or five years. They’ve traveled together in SE Asia and are an amazing young couple that embodies the values and possibilities of their generation.

Jesse, 29, is Dan’s daughter. She’s lived in Chile since graduating from college and met Jorge a couple years ago. They were married in Santiago last December and had a renuptial celebration at our house last month. Their six-month old daughter, Violeta, is our first grandchild. They’ll be in the US for the next several years while Jesse gets a PhD in linguistics at Iowa State.

The red Jeep, a 1959 Willys Cab Over, is almost part of the family. Some of you may remember it from Triple Creek. From there it went to my mom’s ranch in Estes and a couple years ago Dan put it on a trailer and towed it back to Michigan. After some heroic body work and a new coat of paint, it’s our third car and Jordan’s surf mobile. Our oldest car is also our newest…only 37,800 original miles!

Randy (the short version):

Moved to Estes and later Boulder. Went back to NYC for college. Accidentally got into computers in the early 70's. Moved to DC. Worked for the #2 mainframe producer as a consultant to large government contracts. Started a small firm consulting to a major defense contractor. PC's came on the scene, so I changed from mainframes to consulting to small businesses on PC's and financial systems. Emphasis shifted and ended up CFO to a non-profit. Retired for health reasons. Moved to south Florida.

Started chatting with Martin on the internet. Met him in Spain. Got married in Germany when they legalized gay marriage. Have done a lot of traveling in Europe when we go back to see his family. Found some spectacular property on the Pacific coast and moved to Costa Rica planning on starting a guest house. Re-planted the property and built a house for us. Before we started the guest house decided there were just too many problems there. Moved back to South Florida and bought another house...
